Leaving the Shire, part 2

the fellowship

Alas! While exciting, moving to Seattle isn't necessarily a total win. Allow me to highlight a few unique features of the Northwest Ohio area that we'll be leaving behind (with my tongue placed firmly in cheek, of course).

Tony Packo's

TonyPackos

Tony Packo's: home of the greatest Hungarian hot dogs known to man. Seriously. I'm pretty certain that even Hungary is jealous of the quality dogs we have in Toledo. Let's not tell them about it, though. The last thing we need is an invasion of the Hungarian Army attempting to take back their precious dogs. Let's just keep this between you and me. It's our little secret.

The Polish

Polish2

Every year around Fat Tuesday, grocery stores fill up with little donuts bearing the name "Pączki." Who are they kidding? Am I supposed to believe that's a real word? That name might have come from a 1950s science fiction flick. It's clearly made up by little green men.

In all seriousness, the Poles are a great people and the subject of a broad range of jokes. If I could sum them in just one word, it would be wacky. Just look at the picture above to see what I mean. 'Nuff said!

Myles Pizza

MylesPizza

Anyone who's visited Bowling Green, OH, but hasn't partaken of one of Myles Pizza's famous pies has completely missed the heartbeat of the city. I vividly remember eating dinner at Myles on my very first day of student orientation at Bowling Green State University. It was a magical moment—a moment in which I realized my stomach's place in the universe. For the next several years, rarely a week went by when I didn't fill my belly with a delectable chicken and mushroom pizza pie from Myles.

JC's Comic Stop

jc1

I have a problem. An addiction. For the past 4 years, JC (pictured above) has been the supplier for my comic book habit, and every Wednesday1 I've walked out of JC's Comic Stop laden with comic books. I used to be heavily into Marvel Comics, but these days it's primarily DC. (In my opinion, the writing and artwork is simply more consistent in the DC Universe.) No matter what the fetish, Jim has always been ready and willing to take my money.

Thanks JC!

1For those who don't know, Wednesday is the day that new comic books are released.

This post reminded me of when we moved to the Pac NW from the East Coast. It's been two years and we see no end in The Borg's grasp on our lives. Fortunately, we were able to find a great group of new friends at church, and we pray that once you get settled, you'll have the same luck as we did! Safe travels!!

(Stumbled upon your blog via Six Degrees of my husband's, Drew Miller, Twitter log.)

I can't believe you guys are leaving so soon! It hardly seems possible the time has gone so fast. I'm really truly regretful that we never had a chance to hang out. Wednesdays won't be the same without you coming to the shop, and not just because that usually lead to 45 minutes+ of time spent talking instead of working (more if Katie was with you).I wish you guys all the luck in the world. Just remember that your new place needs to have enough room for Lisa, Connor, and I to crash during some future theoretical vacation!

We've just been catching up on your blog. It' been fun reading all about what you've been doing and seeing little Bethany (and, of course, the tailless wonder-dog).

We were at Cedar Creek today. The service and music were both great. The topic was "My Insane Schedule" which was pretty pertinent for us. The music opened with a Pink Floyd song (we can't remember the name of it). The drummer with the spiked hair (whose name we also can't remember) and a few other guys also did a number like something from Stomp with trash cans and black light. It was awesome!

Everyone we talked to at Cedar Creek misses you both dearly, as do we. We hope all is going well. We'd love to visit you sometime. We could see Steve's half-sister too.

P.S. Did you get the book we sent?

    Love and best wishes,

    Aunt Jeanie and Uncle Steve
