And a Happy Half Birthday To You!
I can’t believe it! Bethany is six months old. Every parent I know tells me to enjoy the first year, that it goes by so quickly. I always nod in agreement, but it never seems to sink in. Until now… I knew she would grow quickly, but I never thought she’d be noticeably taller this week than last. I knew she would learn new things all the time, but I never imagined it’d be so striking from one day to the next. And I knew that her smile would make me feel good, but I wasn’t prepared for warm glow I would feel the first time she reached for me, all bright-eyed and giggly.
But enough with the sappy sentimentality… on with the news!
At our six-month “well” visit to Dr. Scott (not the Dr. Scott), our new pediatrician, we received Bethany’s current measurements.
Weight: 16 pounds, 3 ounces – pretty much average
Height: 25¼ inches tall - a little shorter than average ([ed.] She takes after her mother — ba-da-dum! I’ll be here all week people. Tip your waiter.)
Head: 43 centimeters in circumference - a little bigger than average ([ed.] Insert melon-headed child joke here.)
The doctor was wonderful! She listened well and answered all of my questions without making me feel that she was in a hurry. With Bethany, she talked, she cooed, and most importantly, she took the dribble of baby spit-up running down her skirt like a champ. We'll definitely be visiting Dr. Scott again.
In addition to being a happy and healthy baby, Bethany can do all sorts of exciting things. She slices! She dices! She can sit up unassisted for short periods of time before tipping to the side or slumping forward! Not that she minds slumping forward. (It gives her an opportunity to play with her feet or chew on her Robeez—a gift from Aunt Becky, the shoe maven).
Bethany enjoys tummy time now that she can roll from her back to her tummy.
But, there’s a slight glitch. Playtime tends to go something like the diagram below.

Occasionally, she diverts, stopping to "twang the twanger," as her Grandpa Haller would say.
It’s been a lot of fun.
I promise it won’t take me so long to write my next post. Really.

Thanks for the pictures - I can't wait to see Bethany, and of course, you two, when you come home. She's soooo cute! This is such a fun time - they seem to learn something new every day. See you soon in Toledo. Love, Mom
PS -Kiss Foster for me - well maybe not a kiss- but at least pet him from Grandma.

She is growing so fast--why can't we keep 'em little? Maybe you should put her in a box, feed sparingly and only let in minimal amounts of sunlight!!! Doubt it would work anyways, so you better not do that :-) I really enjoyed the update!

Too cute! Connor's tummy time is more just an exercise in frustration for him. The boy just can't quit get the crawling thing to work, and it infuriates him after a few minutes. Oh, and at 4 months, he already weighs more than Bethany. Diet time!
